A former assistant with the Seattle Storm and now defending state 3A champion Lakeside, Chris Bown has made his mark with individual player development. His latest The Drill column is about a multitasking drill for post players. | |||

Note: Join Chris for an hour of offensive skills training at the opening session of Summer Storm at 2003! Details: Click Here Tap-Pitch-Touch-Dive-Score Requirements: Two balls, two coaches (or one coach, one player), six players. The balls are placed on the floor just outside the block. The other players are under the basket out of bounds. The drill begins with the player stepping in to the starting area. She jumps and "taps" the backboard 3-5 times. After the last tap she sprints under control to pick up the basketball. She chins the basketball and glances over her shoulder to check middle for the double team. She "pitches" the ball to the coach (passer) on her side of the floor. She closes out on the coach in a defensive stance and then plays on ball defense. Upon command from the coach she "dives" to the block and then "scores" the bucket. Variations: 1. Upon chinning the basketball, the player will reverse away from the double team and "pitch" the ball to the opposite coach (passer) and close out opposite. 2. Players will dive to the opposite post. 3. Players will dive in to the ballside post and hold for a one-count. Player then flashes to the opposite high post for the jumper. 4. Player "pitches" to the coach and executes an on-ball screen for the coach and either rolls to the bucket or steps out and pops the jumper. Note: This is another drill from Herb Livsey (Coach Portland Trailblazers). I like this drill because a player can work on many skills in one drill.
