A former assistant with the Seattle Storm and now Lakeside and NW HoopGurlz, Chris Bown has made his mark with individual player development. His latest The Drill column is about a drill often used as a pre-game warmup to get up a lot of shots. | |||

Texas Turnout Requirements: Three balls, 5-7 players Some variations that I use while working with players is to have one line start at the block on the left side of the floor and the other start outside the elbow on the right side of the floor. One shot will be a post up on the block and the other will be a step-in jumper. Switch sides. One line can start on the baseline at the three-point line while the other is on the same side of the floor about 25 feet out from the base line. You will get a corner jumper and an elbow jumper. One line can start at the middle of the free throw lane out around the three-point line. The players can go over the top for the elbow jumper or under for the curl in jumper or a post up. Note: On the drills that go to both sides of the floor you can have your players go to either side of the line to get different shots. On the drills that stay on the same side you generally can go one way. Chris Bown is an assistant coach with the Lakeside girls varsity basketball team and a coach of the Northwest HoopGurlz select girls team. He recently was an assistant coach in charge of player development for the WNBA Seattle Storm. Chris also does individual training and can be reached at 206-794-9046 or cbown03@yahoo.com.
